POS and tax reporting: what to ask any software vendor

Tax authorities in Pakistan have rules about how many businesses record and report sales. Rules change, so ask before you buy.

Depending on your type of business and province, you may be expected to report sales through a government-linked system. The rules, thresholds and deadlines have changed over time and differ between the federal and provincial authorities. This article does not give tax advice: check the current requirement with your accountant or the relevant authority.

Questions to put to a vendor

  • Which authority integrations do you support today, and which are still being built?
  • What happens to my sales if the internet drops? Are they reported later, and how do I see what is pending?
  • Can I see, in the system, which receipts have been reported and which have not?
  • Who updates the integration when a rule changes, and is that included?

A vendor who answers these clearly, and tells you what is not finished, is usually one worth talking to.
